Sam is an MD-PhD fellow in hematology and medical oncology at MSK, working in the Chan lab to identify new biomarkers and therapies for hematologic malignancies. He received his BA from Yale and his MD-PhD from the Tri-Institutional Program, followed by residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Sam’s PhD work focused on sugar metabolism in the intestine, and he now brings this metabolic perspective to the study of the tumor microenvironment in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other blood cancers. In addition to his laboratory work, Sam sees patients in clinic and is an investigator on several clinical trials connected to his research. Outside of lab and clinic, he enjoys fishing, visiting family in his home state of Wisconsin, and playing tennis.
